At Utah Valley University, I helped organize and facilitate the university’s most highly attended Hunger Banquet, drawing over 300 participants to raise awareness about food insecurity in our local and global communities.
The event was designed to be both informative and experiential, featuring:
An educational segment highlighting key statistics, root causes, and systemic solutions to hunger
An interactive dinner experience where attendees randomly received meals reflecting global income distribution—ranging from a steak dinner to pizza to a modest bowl of rice and beans
This powerful visual and emotional experience challenged participants to confront inequity firsthand and sparked meaningful dialogue about poverty, privilege, and collective responsibility. The banquet served as both a learning opportunity and a call to action, strengthening campus-wide engagement around issues of social justice and community impact.
I helped plan and execute the Student Leadership & Mentorship Conference, a student-led event designed to foster leadership development and peer-to-peer learning across the university. The conference brought together approximately 100 student participants from diverse backgrounds to engage in conversations about personal growth, mentorship, and campus impact.
The event featured:
Student-led breakout sessions on topics such as leadership styles, effective communication, inclusive practices, and building influence
Opportunities for students to present, network, and reflect on their own leadership journeys
A focus on community-building and elevating student voices as changemakers on campus
This conference created an empowering space for emerging leaders to share ideas, build confidence, and deepen their connection to the university’s leadership and mentorship programs.
For two consecutive years, I played a key role in planning and executing one of Utah Valley University’s largest annual events—the Freshman Convocation After-Party—welcoming between 6,000 and 6,500 incoming students and their families each year.
As part of the planning team, my responsibilities included:
Coordinating logistics for event access, crowd flow, and family engagement
Overseeing catering arrangements to serve thousands of guests
Supporting full event setup and takedown, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience
Collaborating with campus partners to create an atmosphere of celebration and belonging for new students
This high-impact event served as many students’ first major connection to the university community, making it an essential part of UVU’s retention and engagement efforts. My work helped ensure a positive, memorable kickoff to the college experience for thousands of students and their families.
As part of an international partnership between Shanghai Normal University and Utah Valley University, I co-taught a business-focused Events Management course, supporting a faculty member in delivering course content to students in Shanghai.
My role included:
Presenting on key topics in event planning and execution
Assisting students through small group activities, applied learning exercises, and project work
Providing individualized feedback, answering questions, and supporting classroom engagement
Exploring event models ranging from intimate family and business gatherings to large-scale enterprise experiences, such as those produced by Disneyland
This cross-cultural teaching experience deepened my global perspective on event strategy and strengthened my ability to communicate complex ideas across diverse learner backgrounds, while supporting real-world applications in the event and hospitality industries.
